FXH 2017

Scientific Excellence Award

Who can submit?

Students, Ph.D. candidates, doctoral candidates, Postdocs registered at a German university

What we look for

We are seeking research projects in bioinformatics, medical informatics or data science enabling smarter, more efficient research or improved patient care. Your project should be beyond a pure idea, but can still be in the pre-publication phase. Of course, you are also welcome to submit a project that has already been completed (less than two years ago).

What’s in it for me?

Be invited to our pre-event barcamp for an open exchange of ideas with Roche experts and peers from the scientific community.

9/10 October 2017: evening event in Munich on the 9th, and barcamp on the Roche Campus in Penzberg on the 10th.

Roche would like to offer a platform to everyone who shares our vision of making data meaningful. The barcamp is a unique platform for discussing challenges, exchanging ideas and finding solutions together. With this exciting day event, we want to foster collaboration and build the basis for a long-term connection with our academic peers.

The fundamental idea of the barcamp is that there are too many fascinating things out there to tackle them with one pre-made rigid agenda. So instead, we want to use a highly interactive and spontaneous format which embraces flexibility in the agenda and personal interests of the participants. By doing so, we want to experience a conference full of engagement and interaction.

A barcamp is often referred to as an unconference. The uniqueness of this event format is the co-development of the agenda right at the beginning of the event. All participants are encouraged to contribute to the agenda, e.g. initiate a discussion about a certain topic, share latest insights, challenge the crowd with a problem or teach something. The result is a diversified agenda from which everyone can pick and choose to spend the rest of the day in his own best interest. After the sessions and during breaks there will be time to connect and network with peers and experts from Roche. Preparation work is not necessary, and there is no limitation when it comes to topics…so be creative and get inspired!
